Hot or Not?

ImageAlthough it may seem like spring is months away, it’s just around the corner. As it gets warmer we start to shed our layers and we start wearing brighter and warmer colors. However, last seasons spring colors just won’t cut it for the Spring/Summer 2013 season. While the S/S 2012 was all about breezy and playful colors, such as bright oranges and soft pastels, this season is all about colors that enhance self-expression and balance. Pantone’s executive director of the Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, says, “The expression ‘balancing act’ is something we all relate to as we strive to find harmony in the frantic pace of our everyday lives. The same can be said for fashion, as we look for balance between light and bright, classic and new. This season’s color palette emphasizes this need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression, and excitement.”

Ladies, listen up. Tender Shoots, Grayed Jade, and Emerald. Green is the color of this season, specifically, Emerald green. These greens range from sophisticated to cheerful, and offer a perfect base to any other color. Another color that is popular this season is a deep blue, referred to by Pantone as “Monaco Blue”. This color contrasts the vibrant energy of the greens and provides stability and depth to this season’s array of colors. While cool colors have been taking the spotlight, there are a few warmer colors that will also be popular. Pantone predicts that the warm colors of this season will be Poppy Red, Lemon Zest, and Nectarine. There is a color for everyone this season. So don’t be afraid to rock the bright colors and let your personality shine. However, when I say bright colors, sadly, I do not mean neon colors. Neon colors are as out as crocs.

The colors for menswear this season are similar to that of the women’s. There is an emphasis for balance while accenting the soft neutrals with bright energized colors. However, there are a few colors that change for menswear. A soft neutral green, Tidal Foam, replaces the vibrant Tender Shoots in menswear this season.  Also, a more Dijon hued yellow, Sunflower, replaces the bright Lemon Zest.  These color trends are brought to you straight from New York Fashion Week from an eclectic mix of designers. So, if anything about the fashions of S/S 2013 is certain it’s that these colors are the colors of the season.
